How do I configure Outlook 2003/2007 for an Exchange connection?

Update Windows XP to SP2 or install hot fix

If you are not running SP2 for XP, you must download and install this hot fix.

You can also install SP2 for XP from Windows Update. Update Microsoft Office

Connect to Office Update and download/install all available updates.Import the SSL certificate from the Exchange server

You will need to download this custom SSL certificate and import it on your computer.

Download the certificate and then select "Open" to start the import.

The certificate will open and it will not be trusted.



Click on Install Certificate and complete the import wizard.



Place the certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store and click Next.



Complete the wizard and import the certificate. If you are prompted to comfirm the import, click Yes.

Create an Outlook profile to use with RPC over HTTP

On the client computer where Outlook 2003/2007 is installed, click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In Control Panel, perform one of the following tasks:
  • If you are using Category View, in the left pane, under See Also, click Other Control Panel Options, and then click Mail.
  • If you are using Classic View, double-click Mail.
In Mail Setup, under Profiles, click Show Profiles.

In Mail, click Add.

In New Profile, in the Profile Name box, type a name for this profile, and then click OK.

In the E-mail Accounts wizard, click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.

On the Server Type page, click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click Next.

On the E-mail Accounts page, do the following:

  • In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type DC2.SPLEEN.LOCAL.
  • Select the check box next to Use Cached Exchange Mode.
  • In the User Name box, type the name of the user account that you want to use.
  • Click More Settings.
At this point, the client application attempts to resolve the user name on the Exchange server. This operation will time out and present a dialog box that prompts you to confirm your user name and mailbox.

  • Click Cancel on this dialog box.
In the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box, do the following:

  • On the Connection tab, in the Exchange over the Internet pane, select the Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP check box.



  • Click Exchange Proxy Settings.
In the Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box, in the Connections Settings pane, perform the following steps:

  • Enter MAIL.SPLEEN.ORG in the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange box. The RPC proxy server is the Exchange server that users can connect to on the Internet.
  • Select the Connect using SSL only check box.
  • Select the Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL check box.
  • Enter msstd:MAIL.SPLEEN.ORG in the Principle name for proxy server box.
  • Select the check box next to On fast networks, connect to Exchange using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP.



In the Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box, in the Proxy authentication settings pane, in the Use this authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange list, select Basic Authentication.

Click OK in the Exchange Proxy Settings box, click OK in the Microsoft Exchange Server box, click Next on the E-mail Accounts page, click Finish to close the wizard, and then click OK. Launch Outlook and logon to your mailbox

You will have to enter your username and password each time you connect to the server.

You must enter your username in the format SPLEEN\username

How do change my Global Address List?

By default Oulook shows the master Global Address List (GAL) on the Exchange server.

Selecting a different GALIn the main Oulook window, under Tools select Address Book.



In the Address Book, under Tools select Options.



You will see the default configuration. Highlight Global Address List and click Remove. Click Add.



Select your domain name and click Add. Click Close.



Select your domain name in the dropdown dialog.



Click OK and close the Address Book.
